Concept to Creation

Concept to Creation

If you've been with us since the start you may know that our sizing hasn't always been as on point as it is now. We are really proud of the work we've done to nail our fits over the entire size chart.
If you and someone you love shop on different ends of the sizing chart, you will know how hard it is to find a size 4 or 24 garment that fits perfectly in all the right places. We hang our hats on a perfect fit for every body 👌

We are proud of what we’ve achieved and like many good things it took time, team work and the development of a great process. I wanted to share a little of how we work and give big props to two star players of our design and development team: Samantha & Cheat.

Our pattern and design geniuses - Cheat and Samantha. Cheat wear the Isa Shirt and Samantha wears the Station Pants

We've broken down our process to share with you all. It's A LOT longer than the regular garment development phase, because, we are obsessed with finding that perfect snatching fit for everyone while ensuring an extensive size range.

STAGE ONE

  1. I will do a doodle of a style that I've been dreaming of (usually developed from customer requests so keep 'em coming)
  2. Samantha will have a squiz. Together with Samantha and Cheat, we will throw around suggestions for details/design possibilities
  3. Samantha will make a pattern and develop a toile in my size
  4. The three of us get together to do a fitting to see what we’ve got (this can be the part where we drastically change the design)
  5. Samantha will tweak the pattern based on our designs from the fitting - often Cheat and Samantha will combine their experiences and pattern genius to solve some tricky almost impossible issues
  6. A first sample is produced
  7. We get together for a second fitting - the discussions and tweaks continue
  8. A second or third sample, sometimes fourth or more are developed 'till we have it NAILED in my size - the feeling I look for to know we’ve nailed it is: ‘This is the best SÜK garment we have ever made’

STAGE TWO

We repeat the entire of Stage One but this time in Samantha’s size. This ensures that we have a perfect base patterns at both ends of the size chart. This doubles the time needed to develop a style but in our opinion is essential to why our garments fit so well on every body.

STAGE THREE (Also known as the cutest stage)

Samatha and I get together to compare the fits in both our bodies at the same time to ensure they look and feel the same.

STAGE FOUR  (The fun stage)

We take them home and wash and wear to ensure they stand the test of 'real life'. This is the stage where we discover just how good they are and get obsessed.

This whole process can take many months - there is a whole lot of love, labour and obsession. For me, it’s very special to be in a creative team that care so much.
We all live in the SÜK styles and it’s incredible to see Samantha and Cheat problem solve really difficult (seemingly impossible) pattern issues together. They really know their stuff and are a huge reason why SÜK develop such high quality, excellent fitting gear 💪

I’m impressed with your attention to fitting all sizes—trousers, too! So many brands just grade up. I love the fit and style.
