FROM THE FOUNDER: My obsession with older women

If you’ve been following us since the start you will have noticed that SÜK likes to rep older women in a serious way.

I founded this workwear brand as a young woman, trying to find her place, so to me, it always made sense to look to older women for inspiration, they’d made it out of the jungle of their younger years - it gave me hope I would carve my way too.  Along the way what I also found was that older women were looking for inspiration too.

As I connected with them on shoots, in their homes, gardens and workplaces or when I ran into them in SÜK out in the street, they often expressed relief and satisfaction in seeing themselves represented on our website and socials in work clothes, shorts, figure-hugging styles and mid-riff shirts.

These women voiced a joy at the freedom they felt in visually being told: we see you working hard and looking good. We see how tough and necessary you are.

These are the women who paved the way so that I could even conceive of stepping into the spaces that I did in my 20s. Of course, for them, it came with far more difficulty and risk.

Feeling like I am working with this generation to create something new for working, and dreaming women, to be themselves and age on their terms, is one of the deepest pleasures that SÜK brings me. From taking design notes from my mum to listening to stories from grandmothers or just simply running into older women in the world wearing SÜK and seeing how they get about, in all their freedom and hard-won power.
